Kia ora Canterbury Home Educators,
I hope you are finding joy these school holidays in this wet weather!
This year our family has been engaging with the Kidsfest activities in Otautahi - Christchurch as our regular daily routine has been disrupted by the school holidays. We are looking forward to getting back to our normal CHE activities next week including Adventure Monday & Sporty Tuesday. You know you are on the right track with homeschooling when your kids are asking you when they get to go back..
There is quite a lot of choice for Term 3 activities and events. The Committee is busy planning the details of the Matariki Disco on July 22nd. We know this is going to be a highlight this year for the children and adolescents in the CHE Community. Matariki is a time of celebration, reflection, growth, planning and renewed vision in the Māori culture. We have a Matariki decorations competition for the tamariki to be inspired, create and showcase their work at the Disco (see the entry details later in the email.)
Today is the last day for the CHE members survey to be completed - please take 3-5 minutes to complete this now if you haven’t already done so. Also, our giveaway for an Orana Park Family Day Pass closes tonight at 10:00 PM NZST. You can enter this AFTER you complete the survey by emailing cheincnz@gmail.com with a blank email titled ‘Survey23’. The winner will be announced on Tuesday in our members Facebook group.
You can find the CHE Survey here: https://www.bit.ly/CHEsurvery23.
This is such a valuable resource for the committee and the community for clarity and vision for future planning. We hope to be able to share these results at our AGM on August 24th. Be sure to join us in person or online for this special annual event.
You will find some new activities/courses this term including Minecraft Education for 8+ yrs, Bushcraft Skills, BRIGHT STARS One day school with Imagination Station, Woodblock printing & our very own CHE Yearbook Design course. We are still looking for an additional 1-2 teenagers to join us for the 2023 Yearbook production. Please reach out to chenzyearbook@gmail.com with any questions/expression of interest.
I hope you will find activities that suit your family for this coming Term. Term 3 starts next week on Monday July 17th and finishes on Friday September 22nd. There are no Public Holidays during Term 3.
Ngā mihi nui kia koutou katoa,

**Due to popularity, I am extending last term's course and opening it up to new students**
If your child is between 10 and 12 years old, and you’d like them to increase in confidence and interpersonal skills, this term-long course will help in both of those areas.
Improv (Improvisation) develops a child’s creativity, mental flexibility and thinking skills in numerous ways, all of which help in positive perception of themselves.
Mostly I use light-hearted fun games which use improvised acting - making up stories and scenes spontaneously, being supported in a group setting.
There is no pressure- only encouragement and up-building.

Here at Out West Horsemanship we teach foundation Natural Horsemanship from the ground up using Happy Horse, Happy Life methods.' - Izzy

Special opportunities
Hi, I work for Assistance Dogs Trust who train dogs for children with disabilities.
We are looking for individuals/families living in Christchurch to help our puppies grow up to become life-changing Assistance Dogs. Puppy raisers are an integral part of our organisation. Their job is an amazing one: to support our little ones on their journey towards becoming superheroes!
To become a puppy-raiser, you must:
- Have a fully fenced and secure property
- Have time to spend socialising and exercising your puppy.
- Be available to meet for puppy development training.
Our puppies stay with their raiser until they are about 16-18 months of age, then return to Assistance Dogs to be formally trained for their future roles. We cover the cost of feeding and vet care, and there is a supervisor available for all of our dogs.
