Canterbury Home Educators Inc leases a dedicated hub in Addington for our community to meet, use the library, teach and learn.  Members can book the space at no cost to bring a group together for fun, friendship, sharing and learning. We hold our regular home education info evenings here too so its often the first place families new to home education meet with others.
The process to book a slot is as follows:
-Check the Hub Calendar for suitable free slots

-Complete the booking form below
-You will receive a confirmation of your booking along with any H&S/RAMS forms to be completed
-Advertise your class on FB and via the loop
Please email Carol with any questions thechehub@gmail.com

FAQs

Do I need to get a teacher to run a class?
Any CHE member can run a class, and any CHE member can arrange for another person to run a class/group.  The booking member is responsible for the event.

My teenager would like to offer a skill-based class.  Is there a minimum age for running a class or group?
Any CHE member can offer a class/group regardless of age.  They will need a parent to sign the booking form and oversee the event.

I don't want to teach anything, I'd just like to book the space for a small group of kids to get together for friendship?  Is that OK?
The CHE committee welcomes get togethers to strengthen the relationships in our community. There are dozens of awesome boardgames at the Hub that you might like to utilise too.

I'd like to invite people outside of CHE to event my class/group.  Is that OK?
After review, the earlier decision to make the Hub available to members only stands. This review involved consultation with our Landlord, our funding contractor and took into account our insurance constraints and the many volunteer hours CHE committee members must make in order for the Hub to be available to our members.  Membership to CHE is open to all home educating families in Canterbury and we are always open to making sure financial restraint is no barrier to membership.

Can I book the space in the evenings and weekends?
Yes, we will take bookings for weekends and evenings, although you may need to consider things like leaving together after dark etc

I think my class might get a little messy.  Is that ok?
Yes.  You will be expected to return the classroom/kitchen area/toilets to the state they were on your arrival.

Part of my class will involve a long term project.  Can I book the same time for several weeks or the whole term?
Yes, absolutely.  If the space is free at the time of booking it will be your slot for the period you request.

My group will be working on a cool project and we don't want to have to cart the stuff there every week.  Can we store supplies at the Hub?
Sorry, space is limited at the Hub.  There's no space for storing supplies for individual groups and classes.

Part of my class needs to be outside. Can we use the carpark?
Absolutely not.  The carpark is strictly for moving to and from your car/the street and children must be accompanied at all times.  There is a grassed public park across the road and towards Selwyn Street that would be suitable.
