Canterbury Home Educators Inc
is a support group of and for home educating families in the
Canterbury region. We are an Incorporated Society run by a
committee of dedicated home educators.
Our objectives are to address the needs of home schooling
families in Canterbury, N.Z. through the provision of information
and advice on resources and support available and protecting and
advancing the interests of home educating families.
To this end Canterbury Home Educators Inc. actively works to
secure the rights and freedoms of home educators both here in
Canterbury and in the rest of NZ.
Information Meetings
Home Education Information Meetings are the primary contact
point for all new home educators, and those interested in finding
out more about home education. This is the place to come to ask
questions, find out more about the 'ins and outs' of home
education, talk about issues that concern you, and receive help
with exemptions, or pending reviews.
Newsletters:
These are sent out prior to the beginning of each term with
details of what is happening or has happened in our group, as well
as articles of interest to home educators.
Library:
Membership of CHE entitles you to use our excellent resource
library. This is a specialist library and contains many examples of
curricula, parent support books and magazines, a large range of
early readers and much more. We also stock paper, card, art pads,
glue sticks etc at very competitive prices.
Classes and Field Trips
Being part of a group means we can have access to many classes
during school hours that we would otherwise have to attend after
3.00pm. All members are welcome to arrange a visit or class.
Adventure Monday
A weekly playgroup for pre-schoolers and activities for school
aged children. Each session has many areas of play for your little
ones to enjoy. Older children play sports, games etc and extra
craft activities are often arranged.
Polytech Courses
Our teenagers often combine with teenagers from the other
support groups to attend a range of Star courses at Christchurch Polytechnic.
Support Meetings
Each term we hold 1 or more support meetings or seminars on a
specific education topic. There is usually time to chat about other
home education issues over a cup of tea at the end of the
evening.
